On Thursday, Disney announced that Splash Mountain at Disneyland and Walt Disney World would be rethemed to The Princess and the Frog. Now it seems like another Disney Park may also do a retheme.

According toThe Asahi Shimbun, Oriental Land Company are in discussions about the potential retheming of their Splash Mountain attraction at Tokyo Disneyland. An official line from the article states, “Oriental Land Co., operator of Tokyo Disneyland, said June 26 discussions were still underway on whether to change the popular attraction following a decision by Disney in the United States to change the theme of the ride at two of its amusement parks there.” A representative from the Oriental Land Company also confirmed that the operator was aware of the proposed change for the parks in the United States.
The report from The Asahi Shimbun doesn’t outright state if Oriental Land Company would go in the same direction as the United States parks with The Princess and the Frog retheme. So, this could be something to watch as the Oriental Land Company could either keep Splash Mountain as is, do The Princess and the Frog retheme, or a different IP retheme.
The announcement of the Splash Mountain retheme comes at a time where Disney is distancing itself from any connection to the controversial 1946 film Song of the South. Disney also confirmed that the new The Princess and the Frog attraction at Disneyland and Walt Disney World had already been in the works for a year before recent events.
