James Gunn Will Receive An Executive Producer Credit for ‘Avengers: Endgame’, Update on ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3’

After being controversially exiled from the MCU. Gunn will receive an executive producer credit for Avengers: Endgame just as he did for Avengers: Infinity War.

During his time away from the MCU. Gunn got a gig with Warner Bros. to direct DC’s The Suicide Squad. Gunn was rehired in March by Disney to helm Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3.

The Guardians of the Galaxy helmer is one of the six Avengers: Endgame executive producers along with Victoria Alonso, Louis D’Esposito, Jon Favreau, Trinh Tran, and the late great Stan Lee.

Although most of his characters were dusted in Infinity War. It is safe to say there will be more Guardians of the Galaxy. Especially with the third film coming out and possibly even in Endgame. The executive producer credit may have always been the plan even if he was still fired from Guardians. Gunn was an executive producer for Infinity War.

It is safe to say the Guardians of the Galaxy are pretty happy that James Gunn was rehired. Zoe Saldana, who plays Gamora, was part of the vocal group that asked Disney to rehire James Gunn. Ever since his reinstatement, the cast has been fairly mute. Which is surprising. Zoe Saldana has broken the silence of the group.

She was asked about Gunn’s reinstatement by ET Online:

“I’m proud of him. I’m happy that he’s coming back. I’m so proud of Disney, actually, that all the leaders right now behind that big corporation decided to lead by example, and spreading the word and the message of redemption is important.”

The redemption part is important because that wasn’t always the case. Disney studio head Alan Horn and Disney CEO Bob Iger were sticking by their decision to keep James Gunn fired until March of this year.

Now an update on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3. Marvel Studios is reportedly looking at a February 2021 production start date. The original plan for the film was to start production this year with a 2020 release date. As the film was supposed to set up the next several years of the cosmic MCU. Those plans changed after the James Gunn saga.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see the rumored date shift. Which is a shame because the Guardians are technically going to be off of the theater screens for a long time.

Well, that’s it for now with catching up with the James Gunn news. I’m thankful that Disney didn’t force me to write “Who Should Direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 Now?” articles. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 may be released in 2022. For now, Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th.
