Yara Shahidi, a castmember on Black-ish and star of her own series Grown-ish, is set to play the iconic fairy Tinker Bell. Peter Pan & Wendy is a live-action reimagining of the 1953 Disney animated classic Peter Pan. The film will be directed by David Lowery, who previously directed Disney’s underrated reimagining of Pete’s Dragon. Lowery co-wrote the script with Toby Halbrooks. Jim Whitaker is producing the project.
Our friend Skyler Shuler of The DisInsider reported that before Disney landed on Yara Shahidi they had an interest in giving the role of Tinker Bell to Margot Robbie, Taylor Swift, or Zendaya. In the end, Shahidi won the iconic role. Yara Shahidi joins the cast that already boasts Alexander Molony as Peter Pan, Ever Anderson as Wendy, and Jude Law as Captain Hook. Peter Pan & Wendy is shaping up quite nicely.
Peter Pan & Wendy is expected to be a theatrical release and production should begin sometime in 2021.
