Walt Disney Imagineering has been inspiring people for decades. Now Khan Academy and Walt Disney Imagineering have created their very own Imagineering course about some of the learning concepts it takes in designing theme parks.
The videos can be found on YouTube under the Walt Disney Imagineering YouTube channel. The series is a free, educational curriculum on the world of Imagineering. The curriculum shows how Imagineering uses science, technology, engineering, art, and math to create world-class experiences.
This is the official description of “Imagineering in a Box” from Khan Academy:
Have you ever wondered how theme parks come to life? Disney Imagineers from hundreds of career disciplines around the world share how they use a wide range of skills — from story development and conceptual design, to math, physics and engineering — that all come together to create immersive experiences. Imagineering in a Box allows you to explore different aspects of theme park design, from characters to ride development, as you design a theme park of your very own.
The course is split into three main parts: Creating worlds, Designing attractions, and Bringing characters to life.
This is Khan Academy’s second curriculum within Storytelling. The first being another Disney curriculum “Pixar in a Box.” It’s an educational course about the lessons from Pixar and its rich history in filmmaking. Khan Academy is keeping strong ties with Disney and partnering with them on educational courses is a win-win in my book.
Each video focuses on lessons and problems Imagineering has to solve. This educational curriculum looks fascinating. Especially if you’re a theme park fan. If you want to one day become a Walt Disney Imagineer this would be a helpful resource to sit down and do.
