Tokyo Disneyland Continues To Innovate With Its New Space Mountain Update

The classic Space Mountain will close in 2024 to make way for a brand-new updated Space Mountain in 2027.

In 2027, Tokyo Disneyland will receive a new sleek Space Mountain. The $438 million renovations will include enhanced performance and immersive special effects.

The original attraction will close in 2024. The concept will remain the same in the update as guests will still be on a high-speed journey through space.

In addition to the Space Mountain update, an all-new plaza in Tomorrowland will be constructed. The plaza will represent a future where humans are in harmony with nature. It will also give guests areas to rest and relax while enjoying various icons and design elements that will create a sense of hope for the future. In the evenings, guests can enjoy lighting and sound effects that will further enhance their experience in this new area.

Modernizing a classic is just another example of how Tokyo Disneyland and to a greater extent Tokyo Disney Resort and Oriental Land Company continue to innovate.

It’s also wonderful to see OLC and Tokyo Disney Resort opt not to use any intellectual property while modernizing Space Mountain. I’m sure it would’ve been pretty easy to make a pitch for Star Wars Mountain or Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Space Mountain or even Wall-E’s Space Mountain. You get the point.

Oriental Land Company recently released its eight-year plan for Tokyo Disney Resort.
