Thanks for checking back into the Boardwalk Times Newsletter. Here at the Boardwalk Times we decided to scale back our newsletter coverage due to the numbers, quality, and time. The consistency of these letters can happen but the numbers aren’t there to back it up. So the group is currently exploring options on ways to distribute this newsletter to a larger audience. It will be for the best! Now let’s dive into what happened on October 5 back in Disney history.
Disney’s 11th animated feature film The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad is released. The Wind of the Willows laters inspires Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride at Disney Parks.
1982

Ah, 1982 the birth of EPCOT Center. What a glamorous time to be alive. On this day World of Motion was dedicated at EPCOT Center. The whimsical look at the development of transportation. The attraction was sponsored by General Motors. In 1996 it was replaced with Test Track.
2009
Walt Disney World Resort welcomes a male calf to the giraffe herd at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
2011
Steve Jobs, notably known as the co-founder and chairman of Apple passes away at age 56. Jobs was a member of the Walt Disney Company Board of Directors. In 1986 Jobs purchased a computer graphics division from Lucasfilm. That division evolved into Pixar Animation Studios. Jobs also sold Pixar to Disney for $7.4 billion. A more expensive deal than the later Lucasfilm and Marvel acquisitions. Jobs became the largest individual shareholder in the company. Steve Jobs changed the way we consume content today. You are probably reading this on your iPhone right now.
“Steve was such an original, with a thoroughly creative, imaginative mind that defined an era. Despite all he accomplished, it feels like he was just getting started. With his passing, the world has lost a rare original, Disney has lost a member of our family and I have lost a great friend.” -Disney CEO Bob Iger
“Steve Jobs was an extraordinary visionary, our very dear friend and the guiding light of the Pixar family. He saw the potential of what Pixar could be before the rest of us, and beyond what anyone ever imagined. Steve took a chance on us and believed in our crazy dream of making computer animated films; the one thing he always said was to simply ‘make it great.’ He is why Pixar turned out the way we did and his strength, integrity and love of life has made us all better people. He will forever be a part of Pixar’s DNA. Our hearts go out to his wife Laurene and their children during this incredibly difficult time.” -John Lasseter, Chief Creative Officer & Ed Catmull, President, Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios
2014
Maelstrom closes at Epcot to make way for Frozen. The attraction would end up being Frozen Ever After, a boat ride through Arendelle. The Norway pavilion would completely transform in order to prepare for Frozen fever.
(Bitterness in the Disney community fueled Maelstrom in the first ever Extinct Magic Madness, a Twitter tournament created by Walt’s Frozen Head and Boardwalk Times Creator Zach Perilstein. The team named the Norway Trolls went on to defeat the Animal Kingdom Beasties in the final.)

Martin Short just won’t go away, huh? In “O’Canada”, a CircleVision journey takes you across north of the border in a full, 360 panorama. At the end (of both the 1982 and the 2007 versions), a ballad plays (now recorded by Eva Avila, a French Canadian singer who won Canadian Idol) written by Robert Moline. Beautiful as it stretches across gorgeous shots of Canada’s natural wonders, it does almost as good of a service at representation as the country’s national anthem does itself.
Some of Walt Disney’s Dreams That Haven’t Been Realized Yet by Zach Perilstein
What about all the dreams he talked about to his family? I wonder if we will ever learn more about some of Walt Disney’s brilliant ideas. I also titled the article Some of Walt Disney’s Dreams That Haven’t Been Realized Yet for a clear reason. I still believe in these ideas. Mostly Progress City and Mineral King Ski Resort but a Boyhood Farm could still do. You can never have enough attractions dedicated to the life of Walt Disney.
