The Mandalorian and Grogu kicked off Star Wars Celebration Japan. Attendees were treated to new footage from the film.
Director Jon Favreau showcased an exclusive sizzle reel that consisted of Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin, Grogu, and a New Republic officer played by Sigourney Weaver. The reel also included a new look at Zeb from Star Wars: Rebels, who was previously announced for the cast back at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in August 2024.
The teaser included shots of AT-ATs across a snowy landscape akin to The Empire Strikes Back. That scene was a heavy action sequence with Mando.
The newest development from the sizzle reel came with Jeremy Allen White’s confirmation as Jabba’s son Rotta, who fans came to know from Star Wars: The Clone Wars. He’s described to be a grown-up version of the character with a beefy physique, funny enough.
Additionally, Pascal and Weaver joined Favreau onstage alongside animatronic BDX droids and Grogu. There was discussion about the significance of Star Wars to Japanese cinema and the origins of The Mandalorian TV series.
Sigourney Weaver revealed she was cast via Zoom and immediately received the order to watch the show. She complimented both Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau, as well as Pedro Pascal. “There’s somebody else I fell in love with. May I just say that, of course, Grogu stole my heart,” said Weaver.
There’s much anticipation to see where Pascal’s Mando and his adoptive son Grogu go from here. Many fans also wonder how Zeb, Jeremy Allen White’s Rotta, and Sigourney Weaver’s New Republic Officer will factor into the overall plot.
The footage hasn’t been released to the public as of the writing of this article.
The Mandalorian and Grogu will release on May 22, 2026.
