A dizzying array of medals are available to the runner participating in Disney marathon events. There are separate awards for finishing the individual half and full marathons held at the parks throughout the year as well as multi-race medals such as the Goofy (finishing the half and full marathons during the official Walt Disney World Marathon weekend in January) and the coveted Dopey (finishing the 5k, 10k, half and full marathons during the WDW Marathon weekend).
It was announced today that, with 2024’s return of runDisney events at Disneyland in California, several more multi-race medals will return: the Dumbo Double Dare (finishing the half marathon and the 10k race during Disneyland’s official half marathon weekend) and the Coast to Coast Race Challenge (finishing one marathon, half marathon or 10-mile race in California and one in Florida).
The return of the Coast to Coast medal is particularly exciting to Disney runners and, this year, particularly challenging. With the recent return of Disneyland races, there is only one weekend event on the schedule for next year which is January 11th — 14th. If a runner wants to participate in runDisney’s premier event, the Walt Disney World Marathon, they will have less than a week to recover and get themselves across the country to California for their sole attempt to complete the challenge.
It will be interesting to see how many marathoners attempt it and also if runDisney might have more west coast runs that they haven’t announced yet.
