‘Raya and the Last Dragon’ Tops The Box Office For A Second Weekend With $5.5 Million

Raya and the Last Dragon has crossed the $50 million mark globally.

Last week Disney released Raya and the Last Dragon in a hybrid format. The film would go in theaters but it would also be available on Disney+’s Premier Access (the cost was $29.99).

Despite this hybrid format and the box office coming back after dealing with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Raya and the Last Dragon remains number one for the weekend bringing in $5.5 million. The good news for Raya and the Last Dragon and other films is that 50% of the indoor theaters in North America are now open.

With markets like Los Angeles and New York returning (even at limited capacity) it’s likely we will see the box office totals grow in the coming weeks. It will be interesting to see what Black Widow makes in its opening weekend because all signs point to it staying on its actual theatrical release date without any streaming option.

Overseas this weekend, Raya made $11.5 million. So far, Raya has made $15 million domestically and $36 million globally with a combined total of $52 million at the box office. We also have to take into account that a lot of theaters refused to play Raya and the Last Dragon because of it being available on Disney+ Premier Access.

We don’t have any statistics on how well Raya and the Last Dragon is doing for Disney+ Premier Access but when we do we will for sure write about it and break it all down.

The other big box office news for Disney is that Avatar received a re-release in China and made a whopping $21 million. Avatar is once again the top-grossing pic of all time at the global box office.
