Today, Pixar Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter announced Cars on The Road series with Owen Wilson and Larry the Cable Guy returning, a Fall 2023 release date for Pixar’s first long-form series Win or Lose, and that Disney+ would be receiving two original documentaries about both the making of Turning Red and Lightyear.

One documentary will follow the life of director Domee Shi and the making of her film Turning Red. The other documentary will follow the life of director Angus Maclane and the making of Lightyear, a meta Toy Story in-universe film starring Chris Evans as Buzz Lightyear.

What’s funny about Docter’s announcement of the two documentaries is that his film Soul which was released on Disney+ was supposed to get a behind-the-scenes documentary about finishing the film during COVID. It never arrived on Disney+. Maybe it will one day?
I’m not surprised Pixar is doing “Making of” documentaries. Into the Unknown: Making of Frozen II, Marvel Studios Assembled, and Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian remain popular for fans.
