A new Star Wars film is in the works from Lost series writer and co-creator Damon Lindelof with Ms. Marvel director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy set to direct, according to a report from Deadline.
Lindelof’s most recent projects include HBO’s Watchmen series and The Hunt. Obaid-Chinoy is coming over after having worked on another Disney production with Marvel Studios. She directed episodes four and five of Ms. Marvel and is well known for her directing work on short documentaries in her home country of Pakistan.
Depending on when this film is released, Obaid-Chinoy would be the first woman to direct a Star Wars film.
The script is currently being written and production is not expected to start anytime soon.
The current release slate of Star Wars films sets a new film every two years starting on December 22, 2023, followed by a new film on December 19, 2025, and ending on December 17, 2027.
Although with the delay of Rogue Squadron, that December 2023 date may be removed for Lucasfilm. So, there is a good chance we wouldn’t see Damon Lindelof/Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s Star Wars film until 2025 at the earliest.
