The Marvel Theme Park Universe has a chance to become fantastic.
Since D23 weekend, I’ve been thinking about the footage I saw for The Fantastic Four: First Stepson top of Kevin Feige’s comments about how the film is inspired by the 1964 World’s Fair. To me, lightbulbs were going off in my head. So I just had to write this out.
The Fantastic Four take over Avengers Campus for a temporary time. In reality, it could just be used as a way to promote the film. The potential is limitless for a special event.
You could have the “in-universe” story be that the Future Foundation is taking over Avengers Campus for a fair — perhaps a Multiverse Fair. Disney could easily get retro-futuristic signage and props throughout the land. They could easily come up with some things that could make Avengers Campus have a more 1964 World’s Fair feel. Within his Multiverse Fair, you could have meet and greets for The Fantastic Four and also H.E.R.B.I.E. Truthfully, I think there’s already some robotics at Walt Disney Imagineering that could be easily reskinned into H.E.R.B.I.E.
Then it would be quite easy to make shopping and food feel a bit fantastic.
I’d even temporarily put a Fantastic Four “4” over the Avengers Campus “A” on the Headquarters. It would be subtle but it would speak volumes of its importance. Maybe you even rename that Avengers Campus HQ — the Baxter Building — just for the limited run.
My biggest pie and the sky implementation would be finding a way to get in some sort of innovative transportation system throughout Avengers Campus. A PeopleMover with narration from Reed Richards would be ideal but logistically wouldn’t likely work for a temporary overlay. Although it’s good to dream and maybe a Fantastic Four, retro-style Tomorrowland could be in our futures? Heck, CommuniCore Hall becoming the Future Foundation could be epic if Disney can work something out with Universal.
My final idea for the temporary overlay would be using projection mapping on the Mission Breakout building to have Galactus looking over the land. This could potentially be a show or just something special that occurs at night. Either way, it would just give this land a bit of something extra.
Also, this temporary overlay would be a way to both create hype for The Fantastic Four: First Steps and continue to make Avengers Campus lively ahead of its new additions of Avengers: Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab.
What do you think of my Fantastic Four to Avengers Campus idea? Let me know in the comments below.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps hits theaters on July 25, 2025.
