Bob Chapek, Chairman, Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products discussed a new development in the consumer products side of Disney’s business. Disney is teaming up with Target to bring authentic Disney products closer to you.
The project includes the launch of 25 stores Disney stores within select Target stores nationwide on October 4, with 40 additional locations opening by October 2020. So, Disney is attempting to doing “shop in shop” concept. This partnership could end up benefiting both sides as the Disney Store outside of massive themed locations in Los Angeles, New York, and the Disney Parks don’t get much traction as they used too. Target is also trying to be unique in the age of Amazon.
Not to mention Target wants to capture that “Toys R Us” market that has been left after last year. Even though “Toys R Us” is planning a comeback.
The “shop-in-shop” stores will feature an enhanced and exclusive Disney assortment of more than 450 items. There will be 100 products available that were previously only available at Disney retail locations at the new Target shops. The store size will be 750 square feet on average.
There will also be a Target and Disney online presence too. As well as a brand-new Target location at Walt Disney World. D23 guests in attendance received an exclusive $10 Target x Disney gift card.
