Tomorrow is the Super Bowl. Usually during the Super Bowl we get big trailers for upcoming films and series. This year will be quite different as Hollywood is still trying to forge a path back to movie theaters and studios are trying to save money during this uncertain time. The one thing that has been confirmed is that Disney will have two to four spots during the big game. I’m here to predict and take some guesses on what those spots could be.
Disney+ Ad
I think this may be the obvious one but a Disney+ ad that showcases all the upcoming and existing content would make a lot of sense. It also depends on what type of footage they have for each project but a teaser that shows The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, Loki, The Book of Boba Fett, The Mysterious Benedict Society, Monsters at Work, Star Wars: The Bad Batch, and more. It would give a good sense of what’s to come for 2021 and create some hype.
Raya and the Last Dragon
This is another one that is a no brainer. Plus this film really needs to start generating buzz considering it’s coming to theaters and Disney+ through Premier Access. What better way than creating buzz in front of one of the largest audiences of the year? I have to expect that Disney will be running a new trailer for Raya and the Last Dragon as they try to market and promote the film. If Raya and the Last Dragon does well in theaters it could open the floodgates for other studios to bring their films back to theaters.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
Another no brainer, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier premieres on Disney+ on March 19. Using the big game to release a new trailer would be the best way to get the people ready for the next big Marvel Studios series.
Marvel Studios Disney+ teaser
Similar to what Disney+ did during last year’s big game. I could see history repeating itself. I could see them doing a spot that showcases The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Loki (again) but also includes little teasers of What If…?, Hawkeye, and Ms. Marvel. Maybe if we are lucky we get more Disney+ Marvel Studios series teases.
I don’t really see a Black Widow trailer coming due to the fact we don’t know when it will be released. Hopefully, Disney just sticks with the May release date and by then more people feel safe with going to theaters (with super limited capacity and social distancing).
It seems way too far out to advertise Shang-Chi which doesn’t premiere in theaters until summer in a normal year I think they could get a way with doing a Shang-Chi trailer but not this year. Eternals doesn’t arrive until November. Sony won’t be participating in the Super Bowl this year so that rules out a Spider-Man 3 mini-teaser (unlikely we would’ve gotten one anyways considering WandaVision is still going on). I also can’t see Disney spending big bucks to advertise Disney-Pixar’s Luca though that arrives this summer.
So while the Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccanneers play in the Super Bowl. You will have at least two to four Disney commercials to look forward to. Hopefully, they end up being good ones and maybe we get a surprise or two. Let’s see if I’m right.
