‘WandaVision’ Causes Disney+ To Suffer Outages

The latest episode of ‘WandaVision’ caused Disney+ to suffer some brief outages.

Today the latest episode of WandaVision premiered. The popular series caused Disney+’s servers to suffer outages. The website Downdetector reported a huge amount of problems coming from Disney+ last night with most of the issues happening on the West Coast where WandaVision drops at midnight.

This morning on Twitter there were a series of tweets of people who struggled to get their Disney+ going to watch the episode. It’s clear that the series has gained traction and that viewers are now watching it instantly as it premieres at midnight PST/3 AM EST. Disney drops the episodes late so their servers aren’t stressed but that didn’t work out this time. If they premiered WandaVision at 8 PM EST they would always crash due to the number of people trying to stream.

It seems like most of the outages and troubles didn’t take long to fix, and it seemed Disney+ was only down for around 10 minutes but this is just another sign that Disney+ has another major hit on their hands. One that crashes its own servers. I’m sure Disney+ is prepping its servers for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier so this doesn’t happen again.

Some may question Disney’s release strategy but it has worked for them and their base of 94.9 million subscribers. Both WandaVision and The Mandalorian have stayed in the cultural conversation longer and the weekly release builds anticipation.

WandaVision was Marvel Studios’ first foray into the world of television. Marvel Studios’ next two series are The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (March 19) and Loki (May).
