Masks are coming back — regardless of your vaccination status — at Walt Disney World and Disneyland. All staff and guests will be required to wear masks indoors. The news comes after reports of the Delta variant causing more COVID-19 cases. Although a majority of the new cases come from the unvaccinated.
Walt Disney World has been open since last year, and Disneyland reopened on April 30.
Statement from Walt Disney World:
Beginning July 30, face coverings are required for all Guests (ages 2 and up) while indoors and in Disney buses, monorail and Disney Skyliner, regardless of vaccination status
As someone who frequents Walt Disney World a lot. The biggest change is wearing the mask indoors at attractions and restaurants. Masks were still required on the monorail even before this rule change.
The new policy will impact cast members and guests.
It will be interesting to see how long this new policy lasts. Hopefully, the recent surge in Delta variant cases is enough for any unvaccinated people to get vaccinated. I feel like Disney will try its best to have this policy updated before October 1 (Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary). October 1 is a huge day for Disney as it isn’t just Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary but a ton of new attractions, entertainment, experiences, and dining options will open.
Maybe Disney will try to team up with Clear? Just like the NBA did, so they can create health passes for their parks. I mean if people have to go through all the work to get a reservation why not add in the health pass? This could also ensure all guests have a top-tier experience without worrying about wearing masks.
