During Disney Investor Day, Walt Disney Animation’s Chief Creative Officer Jennifer Lee revealed that Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon would be going to Disney+ Premier Access and theaters on the same day. She also revealed Disney’s 60th animated feature film is Encanto, our friends at The DisInsider had a major scoop regarding Encanto which included character details that Jennifer Lee revealed.

Outside of the feature film reveal. Lee announced a first of its kind collaboration between Disney Animation and Pan-African comic book entertainment company Kugali for the series Iwájú.

Lee also revealed four more Walt Disney Animation Disney+ series. The first one to arrive on Disney+ will be Baymax which follows everyone’s favorite personal healthcare companion from Big Hero 6. The series is created by Don Hall and the episodes will take place in the futuristic San Fransokyo. Baymax will premiere in early 2022.

Zootopia+ will premiere on Disney+ in Spring 2022. The short-form series directed by Trent Correy and Josie Trinidad will dive deeper into the world of Zootopia. The series will focus on intriguing characters from the 2016 film like Fru Fru, Gazelle’s Tiger dancers, and Flash the Sloth.

The Walt Disney Animation Studios team is developing two new long-form animated series based on two Disney Princesses. Tiana, a musical-comedy series, will pick up where The Princess and the Frog left off and will showcase her new adventures. Tiana will be the first Disney Princess to have her own high-quality animated series. Tiana will arrive in 2023.

The second series based on a Disney Princess will also arrive in 2023 as we will be getting Moana: The Series. It will be a long-form animated musical series that will have the same spirit as the 2017 film. Disney is working with storytellers from the Pacific Islands to tell authentic stories for the series.
Well, there you have it. It looks like Walt Disney Animation Studios will be doing a lot more work. Five original series from Disney Animation between 2022 and 2023. That is just from Disney Animation. Can you imagine what Disney+ will be like by 2023, the 100th year of the Walt Disney Company? The service looks to become an original content juggernaut and I’m thrilled to see the brilliant storytellers at The Walt Disney Company are exploring new stories on Disney+.
