After the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Universal Studios is attempting to make its next blockbuster land. This time themed to the colorful world of Nintendo.
Orlando Park Stop found the patent that Universal filed last month called “Mixed reality viewer system and method,” this patent seems like an add on to similar augmented reality patents we covered back in 2018 for Boardwalk Times.
The first Super Nintendo World was scheduled to open at Universal Studios Japan but due to COVID-19 (coronavirus), it will most likely be pushed back. There will be multiple binocular stations throughout the land. The AR binoculars will work off real-world elements.
The binoculars will be able to transition from AR to VR. The AR Binoculars will allow you to see Nintendo characters but on real-life surfaces. The VR element will allow digital scenes to happen.

The AR technology will be viewed from multiple vantage points within the land. The binoculars will be bolted to a platform, and there will most likely be speakers to heighten the experience. The AR binoculars will also allow you to zoom in and out. That’s how the binoculars will be able to unlock the VR effect.
This is just one component in a land that will feature many interactive elements. The land will also be using Power Up Bands and a ton of interactive games.

Also, AR binoculars won’t be the only augmented reality feature to be inside Super Nintendo World. It is rumored that AR goggles will be used in the Mario Kart attraction. The attraction is still rumored to be a dark ride with audio-animatronics too.
Super Nintendo World was scheduled to open this summer at Universal Studios Japan. Then in Hollywood in 2021, followed by Orlando around 2023 at Universal’s newest park Epic Universe, and Singapore by 2025. Due to COVID-19 the opening dates of projects may be in flux.
