During Comcast’s fourth-quarter earnings call today it was revealed that Universal’s Epic Universe theme park would be open by summer 2025. This past fourth quarter was also Universal Orlando’s most profitable quarter in its history. Just another sign that Universal Orlando is having continued success and the resort is building some serious momentum ahead of Epic Universe.
“We haven’t seen any impact of Omicron in Florida, for example, and very limited impacts we seem to have passed in Hollywood and Japan. Everything seems to be going in the right direction, partly because we continued to invest in our attractions during the pandemic,” said Jeff Shell, NBCUniversal CEO.
Universal despite the pandemic continued investing in its parks. Which resulted in new attractions like Jurassic World: Velocicoaster in Orlando, Super Nintendo World in Japan, and The Secret Life of Pets in Hollywood.
The earnings call revealed that Epic Universe’s construction in 2022 would cost at least $1 billion. Jeff Shell said the project is “full steam ahead.” Epic Universe is a 750-acre site near the Orange County Convention Center. The park will have its own hotel. The park itself is rumored to feature Super Nintendo World, How to Train Your Dragon land, Universal Classic Monsters, attractions based on Illumination properties, and potentially a Harry Potter Wizarding World land.
“This is a business where, if you build wonderful attractions, there is pent up demand. We are going to make a fabulous park at Epic and we are going as fast as we can now to make up for lost time.” —Comcast CEO Brian Roberts
I have to agree with Brian Roberts here. I have a feeling summer of 2025 is going to be Epic.
