Fast and Furious Hollywood Drift — Under Construction — Opening 2026
Project Status: Track and supports are now being installed as well as more footers. Universal has officially announced this coaster will be called Fast and Furious: Hollywood Drift and it will open in 2026. The coaster will be state-of-the-art and have 360-degree rotating vehicles.
Universal Studios Hollywood Hotel — Preconstruction — Estimated opening Late 2026
Project Status: Permits have been filed for Universal’s first on-site hotel. Survey markers have appeared on the parking lot. Major construction could begin in 2024. All permits have been completed and construction is ready to begin any day now!
NBC Universal Creative Campus Now Open
Project Status: Now Open.
New Lockers Coming To Harry Potter and The Forbidden Journey — Now Open
Project Status: Complete.
Second Citywalk Hotel: Estimated 2027–2028??
Rumors have been flying recently about another closure coming to Citywalk and that is IFLY. It is rumored to close in January as that will be the eventual passageway to Universal Hollywood’s second hotel. While the globe hotel will be luxurious like Grand Helios, this hotel will be a value hotel like Cabana Bay or Aventura at Universal Orlando. I would hope it would begin construction next year soon after IFLYs closure and open up by 2027 or 2028 when the Olympics come to town. Stay tuned for more details.
Studio Tour Relocation — Estimated TBD
Project Status: Permits have been filed for early work on the Studio Tour relocation project. As of this month the permits are 100% complete. The Studio Tour Plaza will be relocating behind The Mummy next year around the time the Fast & Furious coaster opens. The current Studio Tour Plaza will be used for future theme park expansion. Insiders say this project could happen after Fast and Furious is opened.
Citywalk Enhancements-Ongoing-2024/2025
Citywalk is undergoing several tenant changes and that is expected to continue into 2025. Newly opened is the Hello Kitty Cafe which is a massive hit and replaced Chick Chick Chicken and Francesca’s. Escapology escape rooms are replacing the former Samba location with a targeted opening in January 2025. DongPo Kitchen has closed and while no tenant has been announced yet, Cowfish on Twitter has teased it may come to this spot. IFLY is rumored to close in January for a new hotel. Stay tuned for rumors of even more closures and new openings in 2025 in citywalk!
