Universal Parks & Resorts are expanding into new markets with brand-new concepts.

Universal plans to build a family-centric themed resort in Frisco, Texas. Universal owns 97 acres of land for the development. The resort will have attractions, shows, meet and greets, and a hotel. The theme park looks to be based on DreamWorks Animation. The concept art hints at attractions based on Shrek, Trolls, and Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous.

Universal touts it as a one-of-a-kind theme park, unlike any other in the world, specifically designed to inspire fun for families with young children. The park will be designed for a younger audience and be sized to fit a regional experience.

Universal Parks & Resorts picked Frisco, Texas due to he city’s growing population and ability to attract businesses to the area.

“We are excited about the opportunity to partner with the city of Frisco and Mayor Cheney as we work to bring this innovative, new concept to life designed specifically for a younger generation of Universal fans,” said Page Thompson, President, New Ventures, Universal Parks & Resorts. “We think North Texas is the perfect place to launch this unique park for families given its growing popularity within this part of the country.”

Universal is also building a year-round, Halloween Horror Nights destination in Las Vegas. The experience will be 110,000 square feet and will be the anchor tenant for Area15’s 20-acre expansion. Area15 is an entertainment district that includes themed restaurants and attractions. Universal promises that the new horror location in Las Vegas will feature Universal’s classic horror films (Frankenstein, Dracula, The Mummy, the Wolf Man) and today’s terrifying tales (from the minds of Jason Blum, James Wan, and Jordan Peele).

The new venture will have a variety of unique, immersive, fantastic horror-centric experiences that surround high-energy food and beverage spaces by day turned haunting bars and eateries by night. The new concept also marks the first time that Universal has created a permanent horror experience beyond its theme parks. The space will also be continuously updated and include seasonal events, along with one-of-a-kind merchandise.

“Universal is known for our ability to deliver original, highly-themed and terrifying horror entertainment experiences for millions of fans every year,” said Page Thompson, President, New Ventures, Universal Parks & Resorts. “We are excited to give our global fanbase yet another way to get scared and have fun with fear in the heart of Las Vegas, the perfect place for this type of unique concept.”

It is possible that more location-based experiences are coming from Universal Parks & Resorts. This may just be the start. So, exciting times are ahead and Universal Parks & Resorts promises to share more details and opening dates for both projects at a later date.
