“Twas the night before Life Day, in a galaxy far far away…”
The official trailer for the LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special was released Thursday morning and so far already promises to be less cringe-y than the original.
The special appears to take place after the rebellion ( circa The Rise of Skywalker) when the Rebels are getting ready to celebrate Christmas (or Life Day as said in the trailer) with the Millennium Falcon all decked out for the occasion.
But Rey, being the curious Jedi that she is, travels to what appears to be Illum and finds a special type of Kyper crystal key that makes her travel through time and drop in on Luke Skywalker during A New Hope while trying to destroy the Death Star.
Then Darth Vader steals the travel key and it becomes a mission across space and time for Rey to get it back before more chaos can ensue.
The trailer becomes an abundance of time travel and classic LEGO humor as Rey teleports throughout the original trilogy, meeting young Luke, Yoda on Dagobah, and Darth Vader and the Emperor on the Death Star.
Suddenly, we’re across all different parts of the galaxy from the throne room of the Death Star to Tatooine with the Mandalorian and The Child (peep LEGO baby Yoda).

Overall, the holiday special looks like it’s going to just be a giant reunion of classic LEGO characters molded into one giant storyline, with iconic Lego humor, new lightsaber battles, and a possible assault campaign Battlefront 2 (2004) style.
The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special will stream on Disney+ starting November 17.
