Sometimes you have to wonder why people don’t go out on top. Toy Story 4 kinda feels like a legendary athlete coming out of retirement. I would’ve understood the logic for a fourth Toy Story if the third installment sucked. The thing is though Toy Story 3 was a fantastic wrap-up to the franchise. Now Pixar is creating a new story although the details sound almost like another finale of sorts.

First, we have Tim Allen, the voice of Buzz Lightyear likening the film to Avengers: Infinity War. For everyone who doesn’t follow Marvel films, Avengers: Infinity War features a lot of prominent deaths, and most of the main characters fade away.

When Toy Story 4 was first announced. Then-director John Lasseter said the film would be a “love story” about Woody going on an adventure to find Bo Peep. Now we have Tim Allen comparing it to Avengers: Infinity War??? Holy rewrites.

Oh, trust me the ominous details get worse.

Now we have Tom Hanks, the voice of Woody, revealing what happened on his last day recording.

The way you record Toy Story, you’re in a room with the team that has created it. When I went in for my last day of recording, I wanted to have my back to them, because usually you’re facing him so you can look right up and you can talk about it. But I didn’t want to see them and I wanted to pretend they couldn’t see me. When I realized what they were going for, I realized, ‘Oh, this is a moment in history.’

A moment in history? What could that possibly be? There is a couple of intriguing options where Toy Story 4 can go with that. I also think Toy Story 5 is very unlikely maybe in a couple of years but Pixar plans on making more originals. Here are some possible endings Hanks could be hinting at.

The Toys reunite with Andy

This may be a more happy tearjerker moment. Maybe we get a flash-forward moment where Bonnie is off to college and she gives her toys to Andy’s kid. This would be a happy scenario. It would see the franchise come full circle. Although critics would call it cliche.

Buzz Lightyear dies.

Please, I really don’t want Pixar killing anyone off because it's totally unnecessary. I don’t want them to do this weird flex just because they need to prove they can do Toy Story without Lasseter, we all know Pixar can do stuff without the man but let’s not get over the top with trying to prove it. I feel like there are other ways to make a compelling story. This would qualify as emotional for Hanks, and it would make Allen’s Infinity War comparison a lot more real.

Woody leaves the gang to be with Bo Peep

This would be another insane moment. It’s a little better than the death scenarios. It would also relate back to the original story details. Woody has to either stay with Bo Peep or be with the gang. Still, I don’t know how Bonnie would feel about losing Woody? Not to mention would we really split up the friendship of Buzz Lightyear and Woody?

From Tim Allen’s Infinity War comparison to Tom Hanks not wanting to face the crew because he might tear up. It sounds like Pixar is making sure Toy Story 4 is an emotional rollercoaster. Get ready for your heart strings to be eviscerated.

I’m nervous about the details we have heard. I’m hoping that Pixar doesn’t mess up its first franchise. Can’t wait to see more about this film.

Toy Story 4 is due in theaters June 21, 2019.
