The Oriental Land Company, the owners of Tokyo Disney Resort plan to launch a new smartphone app for guests. The app should arrive sometime in 2018. The new app allows customers to buy tickets, make hotel and restaurant reservations, navigate the park, and view estimated wait times. It will be compatible with a smartphone-based e-ticket system introduced this week at the parks.
The shopping portion of the app will help congestion in stores. Now guests will have the ability to shop for merchandise while waiting in line. Also they will have the ability to have their merchandise delivered to their resort.
The initial launch will have the app just in Japanese. A later version for international guests will be coming soon after. The Oriental Land Company is planning to spend big on its IT department.
The company plans to spend $111 million by 2020 to remodel Tokyo Disneyland and to install new automatic ticket machines, and facial recognition for annual passholders.
This new app should be interesting considering that OLC is more involved with it then Disney. Will the OLC develop a better version of My Disney Experience?
