This guy is making a documentary about the Ducks of Disneyland

It all started with a mouse… and then the ducks moved in.

Nathan Garcia is a normal PR and film student living in Southern California. He’s always been a fan of the Disney Parks and vlogs on YouTube with his girlfriend, Bri.

One night, Garcia decided to tweet this to his followers… and it blew up in the Disney Community.

“What if this is a thing?” Garcia said he remembered thinking. “What if I can actually do this? How hard could it be?”

Since that tweet, Garcia has been working to create a new documentary, or duckumentary, Duckland.

How hard can it be? When people think of Disney Parks, there are many things that come to mind like rides, characters, shows, and food. Ducks are certainly not on anyone’s radar, but Garcia is using his film expertise combined with research on nature documentaries and of course, ducks, to create a story about these background stars of the Disney Parks.

He’s been following around these not-so-furry friends around the parks taking photos and videos.

The documentary is still in its storyboarding and research phase, but Garcia says that he’s been enjoying taking test-shots and following around the ducks.

It’s not all fun and games though, there are some struggles with making a documentary. First, it’s hard finding a cast! Telling the difference between a duck is not easy, according to Garcia.

“It’s easy when you’re there [Disneyland] to stick with the same duck, but when you get home and review the footage [it’s harder]…I’m looking at the patterns and they all look really alike. It’s like looking at Zebras.”

Secondly, Garcia is just a student… That means he’s working on a student’s budget and with tools, he already has like his camera and Disneyland Annual Pass. He received funding on a Kickstarter, but after his goal wasn’t met, he didn’t get the money.

He’s still enthusiastic though, sharing his progress from his Twitter account! His most recent announcement was an introduction to a duck, Daffy!
