The Walt Disney Company Pledges $5 Million to Nonprofit Organizations

The Walt Disney Company has pledged $5 million to support nonprofit organizations that advance social justice. Disney is starting with a $2 million donation to the NAACP.

On May 31, Disney and its various Twitter accounts released a statement regarding the current unrest in our world.

Now today Disney is taking more action. The Walt Disney Company is donating $5 million to nonprofit organizations for social justice causes. The company started off with a $2 million donation to the NAACP.

“The killing of George Floyd has forced our nation to once again confront the long history of injustice that black people in America have suffered, and it is critical that we stand together, speak out and do everything in our power to ensure that acts of racism and violence are never tolerated,” said Disney CEO Bob Chapek. “This $5 million pledge will continue to support the efforts of nonprofit organizations such as the NAACP that have worked tirelessly to ensure equality and justice.”

Disney’s pledge today is a part of the company’s ongoing commitment to social justice causes. Disney has worked closely with groups that advocate for change for years including NAACP, whose mission is to ensure a society in which all individuals have equal rights without discrimination based on race.

Disney is also doing the Disney Employee Matching Gifts program where employees are able to make an impact in their communities by donating to an eligible organization, with The Walt Disney Company matching those gifts.

Disney brought in $69.57 billion in revenue last year according to financial statements. This year Disney’s revenue will be affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
