The Potential 60+ MCU Characters Returning for ‘Avengers 5’

Marvel Studios is preparing one of its biggest films ever with more than 60 MCU characters returning for ‘Avengers 5.’ Who will be in this historic film? Let’s speculate.

With recent reports stating that the next Avengers film will feature more than 60 MCU characters returning. I took that as a challenge to figure out the lineup for the next Avengers film. Maybe we’re close? Maybe we are far off? Who knows!

The Assumed Main Avengers

Spider-Man

Marvel’s biggest character by far is Spider-Man and it would be crazy to leave Tom Holland’s Spider-Man on the sidelines for this film.

Shang-Chi

Shang-Chi is one of the MCU’s newest heroes and fans are eagerly awaiting his return to the universe.

Yelena Belova

Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova made quite the impact in both Black Widow and Hawkeye. Next up for the character is Thunderbolts* then likely Avengers 5.

Doctor Strange

Doctor Strange remains a box office draw in the MCU. Strange is on a hot streak with Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Expect Doctor Strange to play a pivotal role in this Avengers film.

Wong

Wong has been the glue keeping the MCU together during Phase 4. I expected that trend to continue in Phases 5 & 6. Wong being in the next Avengers film is a no brainer.

Scarlet Witch

Wanda Maximoff won’t be on the sidelines for this Avengers film. If Elizabeth Olsen is up for it, the Scarlet Witch will be in this film.

Thor

Chris Hemsworth’s Thor was one of the several actors mentioned during the Deadline article about Avengers 5. It’s widely assumed he will be back.

Valkyrie

Valkyrie has some unfinished business in the MCU. After her appearance in Avengers: Endgame, fanns have been waiting for her to interact with the Avengers more. Thankfully she had a brief cameo in The Marvels.

Shuri/Black Panther

Shuri took up the mantle as the Black Panther and I expect her and Wakanda to play a major role in this film.

Ant-Man and the Wasp

Even if Quantumania didn’t go as planned, I can’t imagine Marvel Studios abandoning Ant-Man and the Wasp for this big of a film.

Vision

With a Disney+ series on the way, it seems like Vision is sticking around.

Captain America

After the events of Captain America: Brave New World, the stage should be set for Captain America to lead the Avengers.

Winter Soldier

Bucky Barnes will be back in Thunderbolts* and he will hopefully be back in this film as well.

Moon Knight

Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight will likely return in Avengers 5.

Ms. Marvel

After the events of The Marvels, Kamala Khan will be a fixture in the MCU for years to come.

She-Hulk

She-Hulk should be back in Avengers 5 but maybe we will see her before then?

Daredevil

Daredevil being in this film is a no brainer. Especially if he’s in the next Spider-Man film as well.

Star-Lord

Although most folks would be fine if we don’t see the Guardians of the Galaxy (James Gunn’s version) ever again, it’s likely Marvel Studios wants a big name like Chris Pratt attached as Star-Lord for these Avengers films.

Nebula

Karen Gillan was one of the names mentioned by Deadline when discussing Avengers 5. It’s safe to assume she will be back despite the rest of the Guardians maybe being elsewhere.

Hulk

I think we see Hulk again in the MCU before this film but I definitely think this original Avenger will get some screen time in this next installment.

Captain Marvel

Speaking of screentime, even though The Marvels underperformed, Brie Larson as Captain Marvel will likely play a substantial role in Avengers 5.

America Chavez

America Chavez and her unique power set will be back for Avengers 5.

Cassie Lang

As a member of presumably the Young Avengers, I can’t imagine Cassie Lang not being in this film.

Ironheart

Ironheart will officially stream on Disney+ in 2025. Three years after her MCU debut. This character will 100% be in Avengers 5.

Kate Bishop

Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop was an instant fan-favorite and it would be insanity if she’s not in this Avengers film.

Echo

Echo may be more street level but I can’t imagine her being left off the Avengers roster.

Your Special Attractions (Cameos?)

Eternals (Sersi, Kingo, Phastos, Makkari, Druig, Thena, Eros)

Who knows where the Eternals are? How will Marvel Studios even get the team back into place before this Avengers film? Still if they can snag the big names attached from this cast they minuswell go for it.

Dane Whitman

Dane Whitman suffered from a post-credit scene that seemingly won’t be resolved for a long time. Yet maybe it can be resolved fairly quickly in Avengers 5? Sersi and Dane’s dynamic in Eternals was great.

Gorr’s daughter Love

After the events of Thor: Love and Thunder we have to assume that Gorr’s daughter Love will show up at least briefly in this film.

Scarlet Scarab

The Scarlet Scarab will likely be by the side of Moon Knight in this film.

Clea

Clea will likely be by the side of Doctor Strange in this film. I don’t think they would cast Charlize Theron and not have her in the plans for Avengers films.

Okoye

If Wakanda is involved in Avengers 5, I firmly believe Okoye will be involved as well.

M’Baku

I could see M’Baku in a limited role in this film similar to Infinity War.

Ayo

If Wakanda is involved then I’d expect Ayo to be.

Aneka

If Wakanda is involved then I’d expect Aneka to be.

Namor

Namor is a wildcard but can’t imagine they leave the MCU’s first mutant on the sidelines.

Val

Could Val possibly be the villain of Avengers 5? I wouldn’t rule it out! Either way she has to appear in this one.

Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne

I could see major cameo potential from Janet and Hank.

Jimmy Woo

Jimmy Woo coming back could be fun!

Falcon

Falcon will be alongside Captain America.

Loki

If Avengers 5 starts to go into the multiverse towards the end, I’d expect the TVA and Loki to play a major part.

Ravonna Renslayer

Ravonna’s arc from Loki season two could get wrapped up in Avengers 5 or Avengers: Secret Wars.

Hunter B-15

Hunter B-15 will appear if the TVA gets involved.

Miss Minutes

Another popular character that I can’t imagine being on the sidelines. I can’t see Marvel Studios resisting the temptation of having some of these characters get into a fight with a talking clock.

Mobius

TVA agent Mobius could come back for this big of an event.

Sylvie

Sylvie seems the most likely to be back for Avengers 5 and it would make sense considering where things ended for her in Loki season two.

The Watcher

Jeffrey Wright’s The Watcher could make his live-action debut in Avengers 5.

Monica Rambeau

Monica would’ve been listed under the Avengers tier but she’s stuck in another universe.

Nick Fury

Who really knows what Nick Fury will be up to when Avengers 5 rolls around.

Binary

I have to assume The Marvels post-credit scene with Binary and Beast will be followed up on in Avengers 5.

Hank McCoy/Beast

Beast being *one* of the only X-Men from another universe to show up could set up the stages for the next Avengers film.

Thunderbolt Ross

Thunderbolt Ross could end up being the villain of this film as well but if he’s still around I expect him to play a role. Once again Marvel Studios would be committing business malpractice if they didn’t find a way to get the “Harrison Ford” name on an Avengers 5 poster.

Fantastic Four

To me it’s too early to tell how big of a role the Fantastic Four will play in this next Avengers film but it’s quite possible they rise the MCU ranks real quick. Pedro Pascal and Co. could get a large amount of screen time but it all depends on the story.

Blade

As a make up call for Blade taking years to get made, Marvel Studios should include Mahershala Ali’s Blade in the film no matter what.

Deadpool

GeekTyrant

If Deadpool & Wolverine is a box office success it would be crazy not to throw Deadpool into the mix with the Avengers.

Wolverine

Same explanation as above but truthfully it feels like Hugh Jackman is going to get to act alongside some fan-favorites for these films.

Man-Thing

Werewolf by Night was a Marvel Studios Special Presentation but I believe it will come back in an important way. Man-Thing showing up in Avengers 5 would prove that.

Werewolf by Night

The supernatural side makes it over to the Avengers. Werewolf by Night in Avengers 5 would be fun.

Elsa Bloodstone

Elsa Bloodstone joining Werewolf and Man-Thing in Avengers 5 makes sense and it perhaps could be a backdoor pilot for Midnight Sons?

That’s a total of 70 MCU characters from Phases 4–6 off the top of my head. I’m sure there may be more but it seems like Marvel Studios’ has a tall task ahead as Avengers 5 will need to service a lot of characters.
