The official trailer for The Mandalorian season 3 was finally released during halftime at the Monday night football game on January 16. It features voice-over narration from Din Djarin, the titular Mandalorian, rethinking what it means to be a Mandalorian.
The trailer begins with Din meeting fellow Mandalorians who may belong to another clan or none just like Din. It’s notable that there is a second Mandalorian here seen wearing a Shoretrooper squad leader shoulder pad just like Din did in season 1 of The Mandalorian.

The trailer transitions to Grogu and Din arriving at Nevarro which has completely evolved since its debut in the first season. This planet serves as a second home for Din and feels akin to Ferrix from Star Wars Andor. These two planets, Ferrix and Nevarro, are showing more community in the Star Wars galaxy than we have ever gotten to see before.

As the planet has changed, so too has Greef Karga, who has brought prosperity to the planet after a near-death experience against Din Djarin.

The Armorer has moved locations since we last saw her in The Book of Boba Fett as she now is in what looks to be a cave on a presumably sandy planet. This could be the same one we saw all the Mandalorians standing in earlier in the trailer. This could indicate that she moved there or the trailer is being misleading by immediately cutting to Din leaving Tatooine right after this scene. It could be the latter as Din is no longer considered a Mandalorian in the Armorer’s eyes and would have less reason to set up shop near him. The Watch later in the trailer is composed of different Mandalorians, so faction lines are going to be interesting in this season.

Din has come a long way from season 1 and his disdain for droids as R5-D4 enters his N-1 Starfighter. R5-D4 has also come a long way from just being the droid that convinces Luke to buy R2 instead.

After reappearing in live-action in Star Wars Andor last year, Coruscant is now making its move to The Mandalorian’s timeline. Here we see Dr. Pershing in New Republic space. This could point to him being an undercover Imperial sympathizer. An additional shot appears in the Disney+ release of the trailer that indicates he is meeting someone at an old Imperial Star Destroyer.

Another recurring side character, Carson Teva, returns sporting a New Republic jacket with a patch that looks like a rancor. Poe Dameron is not the only one rocking the jacket anymore. This could indicate an expanded role for Carson or more involvement from the New Republic in this storyline. There is still no word on whether Rangers of the New Republic is still in development at Lucasfilm.

Din’s quest brings him to this emerald cave planet where he finds an old Mandalorian helmet. A Mandalorian clan that may have been wiped out by the Empire or a creature later in the trailer.

Another Order 66 flashback with Grogu is teased and fans speculate this could finally be when we discover who saved him from the Jedi temple.

The Tie/IN or Tie Interceptor has not been seen flying since the original trilogy and has returned for this chase sequence featuring more than one of the starfighter. The closest ship we have seen to it is the Tie Dagger in Star Wars: the Rise of Skywalker.

Next, we get to see a Kom’rk-class fighter, or the Gauntlet, a Mandalorian ship we have not previously seen fighting in live action. The first appearance of the ship was in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and it has since appeared in other Star Wars projects including briefly in the last season of The Mandalorian. It is unknown whether Din is flying the ship or if it will be another Mandalorian.

This droid shop features live-action decommissioned B-1 battle droids which were barely visible in The Rise of Skywalker. It is unknown whether these are actual props or CG. This is the second trailer for a Star Wars project to feature the droids after the Jedi: Survivor trailer released last month. The Mandalorian may seek to extract old information here, repairs for R5, or something else.

Here we see members of the Watch, including Din adversary Paz Vizsla, attacking or defending Nevarro. In the last trailer, Greef Karga is having trouble with some Nikto and here we see some getting killed off by Mandalorians.

Babu Frik is a fan-favorite character who made his debut in The Rise of Skywalker. His species, the Anzellans, have not reappeared since and have not resurfaced for this season. Whether or not they’re in the droid shop from earlier in the trailer remains to be seen.

The trailer ends with a lot of heavy action including this scene where Grogu fights a new creature. This creature may be the reason Din finds an old Mandalorian helmet as we see the signature emeralds poking out from the entrance of this cave.
