On October 1, 2021, the director of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise James Gunn tweeted out that he was working on a birthday present and that it would arrive soon. That present is Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.
Guardians of the Gallaxy: Cosmic Rewind arrives in 2022. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 starts filming in November. That’s when the scenes for Cosmic Rewind will be filmed. I think it’s safe to expect we will see Star-Lord, Gamora, Groot, Drax, Rocket Raccoon, Mantis, Nebula, and others in the attraction. Also, remember Disney theme parks don’t follow MCU canon they have their own universe called the Marvel Theme Park Universe (MTPU).
I just have to say that the hype for the attraction is building.
Now that we know the opening year is 2022, the hype is just going to continue to build. my prediction for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind’s opening date is October 1, 2022. That way it will still be happening during Walt Disney World’s 50th celebration, EPCOT’s 40th anniversary, and could even serve as an early marketing component for 2023’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3.
The attraction itself will be bold for EPCOT as it will be its first true roller coaster (we can’t count Spaceship Earth). The attraction will also utilize Walt Disney Imagineering’s omnicoaster (storycoaster) system. The system allows guests vehicles to rotate to focus the guests on the action.
The attraction will also do another Disney first as it will be the first reverse launch on a Disney coaster.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind’s pavilion is the first other-world showcase pavilion. The pavilion will be named Wonders of Xandar. Which is a tribute to the former Wonders of Life pavilion at EPCOT.
The queue will feature a Xandarian Galaxarium. The queue/pre-show should involve Groot and Rocket if the concept art is correct. It’s likely the same effect used for Web Slingers out in California will be used here but for Rocket and Groot.
For the ride and the footage. Not much is known but maybe we will get a small teaser for it in November/December? The only plot detail is that because it’s called Cosmic Rewind we should be sent back to the big bang, and I also wouldn’t be surprised if they mention the whole Peter Quill visited EPCOT as a kid as a storyline point.
The hype continues to build for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. Be sure to follow Boardwalk Times for all the latest news on the attraction.
EPCOT now belongs to the Guardians of the Galaxy. Guardians of EPCOT merchandise anyone?
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind debuts in 2022.
