Last year, most Disney+ subscribers spent Fourth of July with Hamilton, and now this Thanksgiving weekend we will be spending it with The Beatles. Peter Jackson’s The Beatles: Get Back has been rerouted and reformated from its August 27 theatrical release to November 25, 26, and 27.
Yes, that’s right, The Beatles: Get Back will now be a three-part docuseries. The original documentary film was going to be six hours. Disney made the right call here by moving this to Disney+ and making it an event documentary series. We actually predicted back in December 2020 that The Beatles: Get Back was destined for a Disney+ release.
Disney’s Executive Chairman Bob Iger tweeted about the change:
As a huge @theBeatles fan, I am thrilled @disneyplus will be the home for this extraordinary doc series by Peter Jackson. Get Back is an unprecedented look at the camaraderie, genius songwriting, and indelible impact of the most iconic and culturally influential band of all time. https://t.co/iqw9g7BfR5

The Disney+ original documentary series comes from Walt Disney Studios, Apple Corps Ltd., and WingNut Films Productions Ltd. Director Peter Jackson has spent three years restoring and editing the footage.
The Beatles: Get Back will take audiences back to 1969 during one of The Beatles’ more intimate recording sessions. The documentary series will chronicle John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr as they plan their first live show in two years (which would end up being the famous rooftop performance).
The Beatles: Get Back will include the entirety of The Beatles’ final performance. The documentary will also feature the music on the band’s final two albums Abbey Road and Let It Be.
The Beatles: Get Back is being made with the support of Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono Lennon, and Olivia Harrison.
The Beatles: Get Back will stream on Disney+ on November 25, 26, and 27.
