Summer of Heroes comes to DCA this Summer

Disney has announced that Guardians of the Galaxy — Mission: Breakout is set to open in Hollywood Land at DCA May 27th. In order to “Breakout” the festivities and to launch off Summer they’ve also announced Summer of Heroes (notice, not Marvel) will launch the same day and ends September 10th.

Here will be some permanent additions:

Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Dance Off! — Don’t be surprised if you run into the Guardians of the Galaxy on their way to the Milano, with Star-Lord firing up his old-school boom box to get the party started. Gamora may prefer to stand back and observe, but everyone else is bound to get in the groove and show off their moves during this awesome rock ’n’ roll bash!

Super Hero Encounters — For the first time, citizens of Earth will come face-to-face with Groot, one of the Guardians of the Galaxy! You can also step up to meet the First Avenger, Captain America, along with everyone’s favorite web slinger, your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

And some limited time experiences.

Avengers Training Initiative — Black Widow and Hawkeye assemble young recruits for a series of tests to see if they have what it takes to join the ranks of the Avengers.

Heroic Encounter: Black Widow — Black Widow will arrive on the scene several times throughout the day in an armored Avengers vehicle for her heroic encounter with park guests.

Grab a Piece (or Bite) of the Action — All that heroism making you hungry? Want a token as proof of your adventures when you get home? Special themed merchandise and food will be available throughout Hollywood Land.

It sounds like GOTG: Awesome Dance Off might just be another ploy to get folks to purchase high priced alcohol.

As far as meeting Groot? Well I’ve never met a tree before. But with the sequel coming out soon you would think they would at least have a meet and greet with Baby Groot!

The Avengers Training Initiative sounds similar to what they’re doing over in Tomorrowland with Star Wars for the kids. It doesn’t sound too exciting but hopefully will keep the kids occupied for a bit.

Overall this seems very similar to what DCA has done in the past with an overlay of Marvel (I mean Super Heroes, sorry Universal). They’ve got the alcohol, the food, the dance parties, the meet and greets. Just like the overlay to Twilight Zone Tower of Terror to GOTG — Mission Breaktout! this looks like another overlay to DCA’s Hollywood Land street party atmosphere, for another year.
