According to The Hollywood Reporter, Alfred Molina will reprise his villainous role of Doctor Octopus in Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man 3. GWW first reported that Molina was on set for the film. Molina played Doctor Octopus in 2004’s Spider-Man 2.
Jamie Foxx is returning as Electro from Andrew Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Now with the confirmations of both Foxx and Molina as their respected Spider-Man villain characters plus the inclusion of Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange. It is obvious Spider-Man 3 is setting up a film that will explore Marvel’s multiverse.
Molina’s casting isn’t the only big Spider-Man 3 news to go down today. As rumors have swirled that Andrew Garfield will be coming back as his version of Spider-Man and that Kirsten Dunst will reprise her role of Mary Jane Watson from the Sam Raimi trilogy.
It’s also being reported that Tobey Maguire is close to a deal to join Spider-Man 3, and that Emma Stone is close to a deal to return as Gwen Stacy.
For now, even without the inclusion of Andrew Garfield, Tobey Maguirre, Kirsten Dunst, and Emma Stone this film has a stacked cast. Spider-Man 3 directed by Jon Watts features a cast starring Tom Holland, Benedict Cumberbatch, Zendaya, Jamie Foxx, Alfred Molina, Marisa Tomei, J.K. Simmons, and Jacob Batalon.
Spider-Man 3 is expected to arrive December 17, 2021.
