The Walt Disney Company is breaking some major news on all fronts today.
Today on the Disney Parks Blog, Zach Riddley, Walt Disney World Site Portfolio Executive at Walt Disney Imagineering announced that Spaceship Earth at EPCOT would be closing for a reimagining on May 26.
The new vision for inside the famous geosphere is about the story of humanity. This is a similar theme to previous iterations of Spaceship Earth and fits in line with the teaser of the reimagined attraction at The EPCOT Experience. The new Spaceship Earth will be following our long journey from prehistoric humans to today. Many of the classic moments will be updated in amazing ways, blended with brand-new scenes to tell a story about our human experience.
The concept art showcases Egypt which you already see in the current iteration of Spaceship Earth. Although in this version the details and light will transform the Egypt scene into something new and spectacular.
The Disney Parks Blog and Zach Riddley did confirm that the attraction will feature new narration. Sorry Dame Judi Dench!
This will be the fourth update of Spaceship Earth since its opening on October 1, 1982. Riddley touts it’s the most ambitious update yet.
So, May 26 will be your last chance to ride this current version of Spaceship Earth before the attraction goes down for a long refurbishment. More changes are expected to be happening at EPCOT.
