In a statement to Laughing Place, Disney confirmed that it would postpone the development of the Spaceship Earth reimagining and the Mary Poppins inspired attraction.
“As with most businesses during this period, we are further evaluating long-term project plans. The decision was made to postpone the development of the “Mary Poppins”-inspired attraction and Spaceship Earth at this time.” — Disney Spokesperson
Well, postponing in my book is good news. Even if these developments never quite come to fruition it’s good that Disney is still considering doing them down the line. It was clear once Disney announced a decrease in spending of $900 million we would start to see some dominoes fall. Spaceship Earth at some point will have to be updated due to its age, and the Mary Poppins attraction was rumored to be a flat ride although some chatter pointed to the attraction using the same screen technology used in The Epcot Experience.
Hopefully, these developments still happen down the line. Also, with these confirmations of development postponements, it’s looking likely Splash Mountain will be around for a while until things get back to a somewhat normal. I know Disney already said that it would be but it seems like it will be longer than expected if they really do a ton of cost-cutting measures. I really can’t see Disney postponing a bunch of projects that were in the works and then doing one that was just announced.
Well, as someone who reported on both projects back in 2019. It’s always fun to report on when something is being announced, and it is never fun to report on when a project is being postponed and potentially canceled.
