RUMOR: ‘The Muppet Show’ Pilot In The Works at FOX, Seth Rogen Attached As Producer

Rumors and rumblings have been swirling that a new Muppets project was in the works.

For a few weeks now, there have been rumblings of a new The Muppet Show pilot. The project was listed on various Hollywood casting/production websites with Michael Steinbach of The Muppets Studio as a producer. In a listing from the Film & Television Industry Alliance it has revealed some of the talent behind this potential reboot of The Muppet Show.

The new iteration of The Muppet Show is being developed by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg of Point Grey Pictures. Disney has wanted to work with Point Grey Pictures for some time as Rogen’s production company has been attached to a Figment film and a continuation of Darkwing Duck. Alex Timbers (John Mulaney: Baby J) is attached to direct the pilot. The Jim Henson Company will also be involved with the pilot.

The listing also notes that this pilot is being developed for FOX Network instead of ABC or Disney+. This is why I feel like this is a rumor until more concrete details emerge or even an outright confirmation. Disney having The Muppet Show on an entirely different broadcast network is a wild thought.

The listing from Film & Television Industry Alliance currently describes the pilot as:

“The Muppet Show pilot is set to reintroduce the beloved characters with a fresh twist, blending classic charm with new comedic sketches. The project aims to capture the heart and humor that made the original a cultural icon.”

So just to recap… The Muppet Show pilot is being produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg through their production company Point Grey Pictures in association with 20th Television, The Muppets Studio and The Jim Henson Company. The pilot is rumored to be shooting this week on the Fox Studio Lot.

We’ve been tracking this rumor for weeks but it seems like there is smoke here. Obviously this is a rumor and not a full-on report so information and details may change.

Boardwalk Times has reached out to 20th Television and The Muppets Studio for comment.
