Roon Moore (creator of Apple TV+’s For All Mankind) recently signed an overall deal with Disney. For Disney Parks fans the deal is already paying off. Ron Moore, who is an avid Disney Parks fan, is spearheading a Magic Kingdom universe for Disney+.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the first project set within this Magic Kingdom universe will be The Society of Explorers and Adventurers. The Society of Explorers and Adventurers is a known concept to Disney Parks fans. S.E.A. actually connects a lot of classic Disney Parks characters and themed lands together in one universe.
Ron Moore will write and exec produce S.E.A. for Disney+. Moore will build out the Magic Kingdom universe similar to what Marvel Studios is doing on Disney+. THR noted that the greater Magic Kingdom universe, will have a mini-writers room and that Disney is looking for three senior level writers. Moore is already working with Walt Disney Imagineering (the creators of S.E.A. and the creation and design of the Disney Parks).
A S.E.A. series has so much potential as it could explore storylines that feature characters from the Jungle Cruise to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad to beyond!
Moore’s longtime collaborators Maril Davis and Ben McGinnis are attached to S.E.A. and future Magic Kingdom universe projects.
Ron Moore will be creating a ton of projects at Disney under his massive overall deal but his first project won’t be S.E.A. it will actually be Swiss Family Robinson. He will be developing that Disney+ series alongside Crazy Rich Asians director Jon M. Chu.
A Magic Kingdom universe would be thrilling for Disney Parks fans. It could end up creating new fans of the Disney Parks while also highlighting some of the Disney Parks more obscure intellectual property. I would say at this rate nothing is off limits when it comes to Disney adapting stuff straight from their beloved theme parks.
