A few days ago, Boardwalk Times broke the story of how Disney is planning the next generation of Disney, Pixar, and Avatar games. Well, the Disney gaming news isn’t stopping there! Disney and Epic Games have begun working on their new gaming and entertainment universe.
Both Disney and Epic Games are now hiring numerous roles for this massive collaboration. Disney and Epic Games are hiring engineers, animators, designers, managers, producers, programmers, and directors for this collaborative project. I suspect even more roles and openings will be announced soon.
Back in August, during the D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Disney provided updates on its relationship with Fortnite but when it came to the Disney-Epic Games universe they said, “this new experience is still a few years away.” Well, it seems like progress is now being made.
Disney Digital Entertainment, which is overseen by Disney EVP of Global Games Sean Shoptaw, is on a mission to create the “digital front door” for Disney. Shoptaw and the Disney Digital Entertainment team are tasked with bringing all of Disney together into a new interactive universe with the help of Epic Games.
Disney Digital Entertainment is building out an entire development team that will help create this new interactive universe. Disney hopes this new venture with Epic Games “will herald the next generation of Disney to the world.”
When it comes to working on the Disney-Epic Games universe, Disney is searching for talent that have “a love of Disney, Pixar, Star Wars and Marvel properties”,“experience with developing and publishing UEFN (Unreal Editor for Fortnite) content”, “a broad understanding of Fortnite and the various devices that are available for UGC”, and “have a special appreciation of Disney IP’s, including characters and lore, linear media and movie franchises, theme parks design, and overall aesthetics.”
Disney and Epic Games collaboration on an all-new games and entertainment universe was announced last year. Disney and Epic Games promise a world-class game experience and a new persistent Disney universe. The new games and entertainment universe will feature opportunities to play, watch, and engage with content, characters, and stories from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, Avatar, and more. Players will also be able to create their own stories and experiences in a “distinctly Disney way.”
Disney and Epic Games are getting the ball rolling on their highly-anticipated collaboration that looks to shake up interactive entertainment as we know it. As I stated earlier, I expect both sides to continue hiring more talent as they build out these development teams. This will be a key initiative for not just Disney Experiences but for the entire Walt Disney Company.
As more details emerge about the Disney-Epic Games universe, we will report them here at Boardwalk Times.
