The week started off with great news for Star Wars fans with creator Dave Filoni’s appointment as Lucasfilm’s Chief Creative Director. However, the week ended with the hidden announcement in Filoni’s promotion that The Mandalorian spin-off series Rangers of the New Republic has currently left active development.
Variety quietly reported the news in Filoni’s announcement, however, The Mandalorian season three and The Book of Boba Fett is still underway.
Not much information had been known about this new spin-off series, but it was assumed that this how would give Mandalorian character Cara Dune, played by Gina Carano, her own spin-off series. In season two of the hit Disney+ original series, Dune was made Marshal to the New Republic, thus implying ‘Rangers’ would’ve been her character’s own show.
However, the cancellation of ‘Rangers’ likely is due to Carano being fired after a social media controversy back in February, though this has not been confirmed by Star Wars or Disney+.

Carano came under fire by Star Wars fans in February when she shared an Instagram post to her story comparing being a Jewish person during the Holocaust period in Nazi Germany to being a Republican in today’s America. The story has since been deleted.
Shortly after her firing from Disney+, Carano landed a role in a film for Ben Shapiro’s The Daily Wire.
