During Disney’s Investor Day, Pixar CCO Pete Docter revealed two new original films Lightyear and Turning Red. The one that has a lot of people talking is Lightyear. When I was watching the presentation and Pete Docter said the name and showed the logo, I for sure thought “We are getting a Toy Story spinoff.”
The crazy part is…. that’s not the case. Lightyear will be the story of the original Buzz Lightyear that inspired the toy. This is some real outside the box creativity. The original Buzz will be voiced by Chris Evans. Obviously, it wouldn’t be Tim Allen because he plays the Toy Story Buzz Lightyear.
Lightyear, slated to open in theaters on June 17, 2022, will be a sci-fi action-adventure and something that Pixar really has never done before. Docter said that they have been tossing this idea around for years.
Lightyear will act as the definitive origin story of Buzz Lightyear — the hero who inspired the toy. The film reveals how a young test pilot became the Space Ranger that we all know him to be today.
Lightyear is directed by Angus MacLane and produced by Galyn Susman.
This film is on my most anticipated film list of 2022 already.
