Disney has wasted no time making Spider-Man attractions across the globe.
From Web Slingers to a roller coaster to a potential drop tower. Yet, Disney has a patent that could be the basis of a major Spider-Man E-Ticket in its back pocket.
Web slinging? What about web swinging through a city? Have you ever dreamed of web-swinging through the city with Spider-Man? Then you’re in luck because Walt Disney Imagineering filed a patent for that back in 2017.
The patent is called Track-based Swing Ride with Long Arm Pendulum. Here are the details from the official patent.
One goal in designing the ride system was to deliver an experience similar to what it would feel like to be with Tarzan or a similar character swinging between trees of a jungle on a vine or with Spider-Man or a similar character swinging on webs between buildings as you move down streets of a city. [The ride is] intended to have swinging sensation provided while also having forward travel along a ride path in a direction of travel and for the swinging sensation to feel thrilling and fun.
The patent also describes that movement of the arm would allow a pause before a big downward swing, speeding up at the bottom and simulating natural motion.

I think the key section of the patent is this.
with Spider-Man or a similar character swinging on webs between buildings as you move down streets of a city. [The ride is] intended to have swinging sensation provided while also having forward travel along a ride path in a direction of travel and for the swinging sensation to feel thrilling and fun.
So imagine you’re a guest and you are swinging down the streets of a city but you’re still on a ride path. It’s not hard to imagine an attraction where you’re helping Spider-Man and other Marvel heroes in a city battle. The ride system and attraction potential sounds awesome.
Maybe they are saving this Spider-Man E-Ticket for the day that Walt Disney World is allowed to use Marvel characters. I know I’m being way too optimistic but still. Either way, it’s an extraordinary patent and this concept being brought to life would become an amazing draw for any Disney Park.
Who knows where this attraction could even go and if the patent is even ready at this point but still this is a concept I would love to see brought to life. I think everyone at one point has wanted to experience the sensation of web-swinging like Spider-Man. If done right this attraction could very well be a next-generation Flight of Passage. Although the patent makes it seem like its own innovative ride system. It could be the start of something new.
There is a major opportunity here if Disney is willing to take the swing.
