Most Anticipated Binge Watching for Disney+ Opening Day: The Originals

Boardwalk Times gives its most anticipated binge-watching for Disney+ on opening day.

Note: Binge watching won’t be possible for all these shows considering Disney+ opted for a week-by-week release schedule.

Disney+ is just a couple of days away from launch. Here is a list of our most anticipated, brand-new original shows heading to the service on day one.

The Mandalorian

The Mandalorian takes place five years after the fall of the Empire and twenty-five years before the rise of the First Order. This is an unexplored time period within the Star Wars universe when it comes to films. This is the first-ever live-action Star Wars series. The Mandalorian looks to be a big-budget space Western starring Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Nick Nolte, Giancarlo Esposito, and Carl Weathers. Both Giancarlo Esposito and Carl Weathers’ characters sound fascinating. The Mandalorian is already rumored to have a second season in development. The series won’t exactly be “bingeable” but I expect this show to be weekly viewing for anyone that has Disney+. — Zach Perilstein (Editor-in-Chief)

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series

Located in the same East High School, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series is a new take on the story we all know and love. The story surrounds the new members of the drama club and the events that lead them to the opening night of the first-ever production of High School Musical: The Musical. The show brings back the same scenery and teen drama from the original movie trilogy with the addition of fresh faces and a new plot. The series has everything you need in a teen drama: a love triangle, rivalry, and a celebration of friendship and youth. Be sure to check out the first episode on Disney +’s opening day. — Muska Olumi (Columnist)

Noelle

This is a welcomed addition to the new streaming service. Noelle stars Anna Kendrick and Bill Hader. It’s giving me some serious Santa Clause vibes and it looks to be another Christmas fun film. Disney+’s opening day is November 12 and Christmas will be right around the corner. Noelle feels like a classic Disney holiday film of old. Something that we haven’t seen in many years. Hopefully, we will get more of this type of fare on Disney+. You can never have too much Disney holiday spirit. — Zach Perilstein

Forky Asks A Question

Channel the curious mind of a child with Forky, the lovable new character from Toy Story 4. Each 10-minute short film will tackle a question with the hopes to answer the questions of the universe. In the trailer released by Pixar, Forky asks some questions like, “What is love?” and “What is time?” With all of the bingeable content on Disney+, it’ll be nice to have short episodes of something to watch when you don’t have time to sit and watch a full episode or movie! — Elizabeth Pfeiffer (Columnist)

Lady and the Tramp

In a world of remakes, it’s safe to assume that the live action version of a Lady and the Tramp should be a must watch. This is the first live action remake to be released for Disney+. The trailer makes it seem very true to the original and it will be interesting to see actual real life animals, not animated ones like in the Lion King. Many of the furry stars are also rescue dogs who were saved from kill shelters. All of them got adopted after filming.— Elizabeth Pfeiffer

The Imagineering Story

The Imagineering Story originally started out as a 90-minute documentary feature. The first trailer for the project was back in 2013 with a release date of sometime in 2016. The Imagineering Story is now a six-hour documentary mini-series for Disney+. This project is coming from Oscar and Emmy nominated director and producer Leslie Iwerks (granddaughter of Ub Iwerks and director of The Pixar Story). The series will showcase the history of Walt Disney Imagineering and it will feature never-before-seen footage, exclusive interviews, and new secrets about Walt Disney Imagineering and Disney Parks. This documentary series is a must-watch if you’re a Disney Parks fan! — Zach Perilstein
