Today on Simu Liu’s birthday, Marvel Studios decided to drop the first poster and trailer for Marvel’s upcoming action film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

My initial reaction to the Shang-Chi teaser trailer is that it looks to expand the MCU in a new and unique way. The action already looks off the charts insane and I’m ready to see more.
Marvel Studios is bringing back The Mandarin as the villain for Shang-Chi. This time it will be the real Mandarin played by Tony Leung. The Mandarin is also Shang-Chi’s father and Shang-Chi must confront his past as seen in the teaser trailer above.
Simu Liu looks epic throughout this teaser trailer, and I’m excited to see how Shang-Chi fits in within the larger MCU. Did this film take place during the five years after The Snap? Is there going to be a Stark presence given Iron Man did have a run-in with The Mandarin (even though it wasn’t the real version)? Will Shang-Chi potentially be recruited into the New Avengers? There are so many questions and I’m excited to get answers on September 3!
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will premiere only in theaters on September 3. This should be a sign that Disney will not follow the Disney+ Premier Access strategy for the MCU after Black Widow.
Shang-Chi stars Simu Liu (Kim’s Convenience) in the titular role. Liu is joined by Tony Leung (In the Mood for Love) as Wenwu/The Mandarin, Awkwafina (Raya and the Last Dragon) as Katy, Fala Chen (The Undoing) as Jiang Li, Meng’er Zhang as Xialing, Florian Munteanu (Creed II) as Razor Fist, Ronny Chieng (Crazy Rich Asians) as Jon Jon, and Michelle Yeoh (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2) as Jiang Nan.
The screenplay was written by Dave Callaham, Destin Daniel Cretton, and Andrew Lanham. The film is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton.
Shang-Chi arrives in theaters on September 3.
