Jonathan Groff Joins ‘Doctor Who’

Stage and screen superstar joins the long-running science fiction series.

Television and Broadway superstar Jonathan Groff is joining the next season of Doctor Who in what the BBC is describing as a “key role.”

Groff first came to national attention in his starring role as Jesse St. James in the hit television series Glee. Shortly after he joined Glee co-star Idina Menzel in the primary voice cast of Frozen as Kristoff and Elsa, respectively. His contributions to the Frozen franchise cemented him as a Disney Legend. Groff was named a Disney Legend at the D23 Expo 2022.

He may, at this point, be best known for his Tony-nominated turns on Broadway as Melchior in Spring Awakening and King George III in Hamilton.

“I am so thrilled to jump into the extraordinary mind of Russell T Davies and watch the incredible Ncuti Gatwa soar in this iconic role!” — Jonathan Groff

“This is an incredible coup, and a great honour, to get such a huge star striding on to our set. So strap on your space boots, this is going to be a blast!” — Showrunner, Russell T. Davies

Watch Doctor Who on Disney+ starting this November.
