Before diving into the world of Frozen once again, Jennifer Lee revealed that Walt Disney Animation Studios will be releasing an original animated film in 2026. In a future article, I will share my prediction for that slot because it seems like there are a lot of original films allegedly floating around in development at Walt Disney Animation from a Persian princess to a Pirates-type film.
Jennifer Lee, who was behind both Frozen films, shared a brief tease and concept art for Frozen III. The film was also delayed from 2026 to 2027. Disney CEO Bob Iger doesn’t get a Frozen film for his second retirement year. The delay was likely due to the size and scope of this new story. As Frozen III will lead into Frozen IV I’d assume that these projects will be worked on at the same time.

By looking at the concept art it doesn’t show much. Still, Disney should’ve given us prints of this! However, there are a few things we can make out. Elsa, Anna, and Olaf seem to be on a quest and it looks like they are approaching a Northern Lights-esque castle. All while a shadowy Viking figure is reflected in the stream. Perhaps this could be a story of Arendelle under siege by a threat that Elsa can’t even stop. So the two sisters and Olaf head out on a quest for answers?
After Frozen II, it was inevitable that a third film would happen. I actually think it was another miss of Disney CEO Bob Chapek not to announce Frozen III during the Disney Legends ceremony in 2022 where Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Josh Gad, and Jonathan Groff were honored. The four Disney Legends are confirmed to return for the next two Frozen films.
I think Disney has had this story in its back pocket since prior to 2019. It’s just that Disney CEO Bob Iger was bold enough to announce it before things picked up momentum.
This is just healthy speculation on my part but I could see Wish directing duo Chris Buck and Fawn Veerasunthorntaking the reigns for Frozen III and Frozen IV with a screenplay coming from Jennifer Lee.
I’m keeping my ears to the ground and if I hear anything regarding Frozen III, readers of Boardwalk Times will be first to know.
Please whatever you do Disney just make sure your filming behind-the-scenes on this production for Disney+.
Frozen III is set for Thanksgiving 2027.
