During the IAAPA Expo, we got the chance to experience Ghostbusters: The Cursed Collection at Immersive Gamebox. We also had the opportunity to hear about the new augmented reality game from Jonathan Casson, Vice President — Business Development for VR and Themed Entertainment at Sony Pictures, and David Spindler, Co-Founder of Immersive Gamebox.

Ghostbusters: The Cursed Collection is now available at all Immersive Gamebox locations. The game was a collaboration with Columbia Pictures Location Based Entertainment and features new and exclusive ghosts for players to interact with.

The experience is designed for teams of up to six players and the players go on an augmented reality through the haunted streets of modern-day New York City. Players will embark on a multi-level experience to recover cursed artifacts stolen from the Ghostbusters Firehouse and capture the ghosts wreaking havoc on the city. The new exclusive ghosts were created in collaboration with Columbia Pictures Location Based Entertainment, Immersive Gamebox, and Ghost Corps Inc.

I got to play a quick version of the game alongside my friend Tharin of Everything You Need To Know. Our segment of the game was escape room focused and honestly, it was a great time experiencing an AR Ghostbusters-themed escape room. I would do this experience again with friends as I think being in an augmented reality environment is quite special. During our segment of the game, I couldn’t help but notice a dozen easter eggs from the Ghostbusters franchise. So hats off to the teams at Immersive Gamebox, Columbia Pictures Location Based Entertainment, and Ghost Corps Inc. for creating this augmented reality experience.

Ghostbusters: The Cursed Collection joins Immersive Gamebox’s impressive library of licensed and original IP games created by the brand’s in-house studio. Other recent experiences, created in partnership with leading entertainment studios, include PAW Patrol, created in tandem with Paramount; Rovio Entertainment whom IGB produced the first-ever life-sized slingshot Angry Birds game; and Squid Game, an experience meant for those ages 16+ and created with streaming giant Netflix.

Immersive Gamebox is building the world’s first interactive cinema platform to unite people through shared play. The Gameboxes feature a range of cutting-edge technologies such as projection mapping, touch screens using their patented ‘Lidar’, 3D motion tracking, and surround sound to deliver an entirely new form of immersive entertainment without any bulky headsets. Teams of 2–6 play 30–60 minute games featuring levels and challenges designed to be fun, social, and collaborative. Co-founded by CEO Will Dean and CFO David Spindler in 2018, IGB has over 27 locations across the US and EMEA with more to come.
