High School Musical: The Musical: The Series: The Review: “Spring Break”

Muska Olumi reviews the episode “Spring Break.”

The East High Wildcats are on spring break! This week we follow the drama team taking a break from their upcoming musical and trying to relax. Right off the bat, I’ll say, I enjoyed this episode a lot more than I expected to. After last week’s fiasco, I came into this episode rather reluctantly but I have to give the writers credit. They did an amazing job with how Ricky is feeling post-breakup. I still have problems with Nini’s character and her lack of emotions but I’ll take what I can get.

The review for this week will be short since the episode was mostly filler.

All season long I’ve begged for Ricky to receive some kind of attention from his family so they know he’s hurting, and finally, we get it in this week’s episode. His connection with his Mom really sold the episode for me, and when we finally see Ricky release his emotions through song it’s almost relieving for the audience as well.

I had my own doubts about Ricky’s Mom since she was barely in the show and was always the reason Ricky had a breakdown but I think they really redeemed her. Just watching her try and be there for her son through a closed-door was enough to melt my cold heart.

Of course, I can’t mention this episode without mentioning Gina and her slew of boys. I’m glad she’s finally receiving the attention she deserves and as much as I love her dynamic with EJ, I hope to see more of Jack in the future.
