Former MMA fighter and The Mandalorian actress Gina Carano will not be returning to the Star Wars Universe.
Carano was trending on social media Wednesday with the hashtag #FireGinaCarano after sharing a post on her Instagram allegedly comparing being a Republican to being a Jewish person during the Holocaust.
The Instagram post has since been deleted but screenshots have circulated across social media.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, a spokesperson from Lucasfilm said Carano’s social media post was “denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”
“Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future,” a Lucasfilm spokesperson said in the statement.
A spokesperson told Deadlinethat Carano was also dropped by her agency UTA on Wednesday night.
Carano, who played the mercenary-turned-marshall Cara Dune on the hit Disney+ Original The Mandalorian has been under fire before for her controversial social media posts on both Instagram and Twitter.
In September 2020, she posted about not understanding why people included pronouns in social media bios. After allegedly talking with co-star Pedro Pascal, she added the pronouns “beep/bop/boop.”
Since this incident, Carano has continued to come under fire from the Star Wars community, which has demanded that Disney and Lucasfilm remove her from her role.
No further details are available at this time.
