Five Options That Could Replace Stitch’s Great Escape

Tomorrowland is a tricky place but Disney has some interesting options with this space.

Well, it looks like there is a good chance that Stitch’s Great Escape will not return to Disney’s Magic Kingdom. WDWNT has already reported that the attraction has been dismantled. Walt Disney Imagineering is obviously clearing the space to bring in a new experience. Maybe they leave it empty for a bit? Let me give you five options for a possible replacement for Stitch’s Great Escape.

The attraction is outdated, and it wasn’t really popular with guests. Which probably disappointed Disney. Considering Stitch is one of their most lovable characters. Yet, maybe guests just didn’t want chili dog breath all up in their space.

One of the Boardwalk Times columnist The Mickey Wiki wrote at length about Stitch’s Great Escape.

The Incredibles

I might have underestimated how popular The Incredibles are. I knew that Incredibles 2 was going to do well. Just didn’t think it could reach massive popularity. Just look at Disney’s California Adventure. The Incredicoaster is super popular, and Jack Jack Cookie Num Nums is a highlight of Pixar Pier. The Incredibles takes place in a retro-future setting. That retro-future looks also fits WDW’s Tomorrowland. Even look at this tweet suggesting Disney a brilliant idea.

“Dear Disney, Please turn Stitch’s Great Escape into a show/ride about Edna Mode designing a super suit for Jack Jack. The audience is there to watch her work & Jack Jack’s powers go crazy (laser eyes, teleporting, fire, etc). Narrated by Edna. Animatronic Jack Jack. Love Rob”

The Incredibles would gain more presence in the Disney Parks if they get the Tomorrowland attraction. Disney could probably totally re-imagine the space into something insane. It’s just hard to give examples of that without knowing all the details and what work would have to go into the building. I think The Incredibles is a plausible candidate to replace Stitch’s Great Escape.

Big Hero 6

Another property that could fit comfortably within Tomorrowland. Although I don’t see this as a stage show similar to Stitch or Alien’s Encounter. I think Disney would have to majorly re-work the building to give Big Hero 6 a distinct fun attraction.

Even with that said it would be a sight to see. Baymax is a popular Consumer Products character. Giving him his own attraction would just add to his star power. Big Hero 6 just fits Tomorrowland due to its technology and futuristic themes.

Wreck-It Ralph

This is the top contender. Easily, the most rumored attraction replacement. Wreck-It Ralph will be getting a VR experience at The VOID. That necessarily doesn’t stop it from getting its own attraction within Disney’s Magic Kingdom. So you may ask how does retro 80’s video games or the internet fit in with the land of Tomorrow? Well… It doesn’t but you could just pull a Monsters Inc. and say well “Look in Tomorrowland we can even access a world that is only occupied with monsters!”

Wreck-It Ralph just fits the action criteria that is needed for Tomorrowland. This is easily the top contender for a Stitch replacement.

Left Empty until a “Stitch” Revival

The timing of this article is perfect. The Hollywood Reporter just announced Disney is prepping a live-action/CG-hybrid version of Lilo & Stitch meaning it may still have some park power left. A brand new attraction could be interesting. Let’s see if the new version is as successful to gain a new attraction in its old spot.

Wall-E

Wall-E could make the most sense here. Although once again it’s hard to figure out the spacing inside Stitch’s Great Escape. Wall-E is the perfect Tomorrowland property. It’s surprising the property hasn’t had a bigger theme park presence. This could definitely change that.

If they reused the stadium seating from Stitch’s Great Escape. The Wall-E version could be that everyone is on a BnL ship and we crashed to Earth and we are discovered by Wall-E. Chaos ensues. I’m just spitballing hopefully it would be something way cooler.

Bonus: Original Tomorrowland Concept

Ah, this is just a dream. Wouldn’t it be cool if we got an original attraction that fit the Tomorrowland concept? Never say never but it is highly unlikely. I do think a modernized version of Alien Encounter would do well. Or just an attraction about Tomorrowland and space sponsored by X-S Tech. Or you just make the PeopleMover more elaborate? There is a lot of possibilities when you dream but sadly only some ideas come to fruition.

Stitch’s Great Escape is an interesting story. Whatever replaces it will be fun to follow. Disney has options and it will be exciting to see what Imagineering develops in that space.
