Downtown Disney at Disneyland will decrease in size to accommodate a new hotel

The much loved shopping district adjacent to Disneyland will be severely cut-down by 2021 to make room for a new hotel.

Today, it was announced that part of Downtown Disney in Anaheim, California will close in order to make room for a new Disney hotel on property, with construction supposedly concluding in 2021.

So far, it’s been confirmed to effect stores past the Lego Store in the direction of the Disneyland Hotel, including Earl of Sandwich, the AMC Theater, ESPN Zone, the Rainforest Cafe, and other assorted smaller stores.

According to Disney Parks Blog, the replacement hotel will be an astoudning 700 rooms, offering entertainment, natural themeing, resteraunts, public spaces/gardens, and direct transportation to Disneyland at the monorail station that guests can currently access in Downtown Disney.

As a fan of Downtown Disney in Disneyland, this news is disappointing, but the new hotel seems grandiose and fantastic. Despite the loss of iconic shops at Downtown Disney, I can see how impressive the new hotel is compared to the others on property.

The hotel is still unnamed, and will open in 2021.
