Disney Wants At Least Three Star Wars Series A Year On Disney+

Disney has upped its demands for Star Wars on Disney+.

In an excellent Vanity Fair profile, it was revealed Disney wants three Star Wars series a year on Disney+. This is completely doable by Lucasfilm and a perfectly reasonable ask from Disney+ as their subscriber base is in love with Star Wars.

Lucasfilm met the goal in 2021 with Star Wars: The Bad Batch, Star Wars: Visions, and The Book of Boba Fett. In 2022, it’s quite possible that we may see more than three Disney+ series but we are guaranteed to see Obi-Wan Kenobi and Andor. We also have to assume The Mandalorian will return in December. That’s a solid three right there and that’s not including the possibility of The Bad Batch season two or Visions season two.

We don’t know what 2023 will bring but Ahsoka, The Acolyte, and an animated series may be the best bet right now. Although depending on what they announce at Star Wars Celebration maybe Jon Watts’ Star Wars series or Lando will make 2023 or something completely different?

Is Lucasfilm at the Marvel Studios level of output? No. Although that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Star Wars is different from Marvel and the Marvel Cinematic Universe lends itself to more stories than Star Wars does. Star Wars series need more time in development and the fewer of them make it more special in a way.

Star Wars seems to be developing a good Disney+ strategy as The Mandoverse takes hold along with other creative series like The Acolyte and Visions giving fans variety.
